Orders
Below are some of are common questions about orders
If you are between sizes, it's best to consider where your measurements fall within our product size charts. You may opt to order a size up or down, depending on your measurements or fit preference. (We find that using the Size Recommender is helpful when determining the best fit.) For example, Our standard leggings and rash guards are made from very stretchy and soft fabrics, so ordering a size down is not typically an issue if you're looking for a tighter fit. Whereas, our rashguard swimwear sets may offer a firmer fit for athletes and surfers. If you aren't sure, please reach out to us. We're always happy to help!

Due to the increasing number of return abuse, wardrobing and bracketing abuse, all orders $350 or more will require approval for exchanges or returns. We will no longer accept cancellations for orders over $500. Orders that are returned will be subject to a 50% restocking fee.
We cannot be responsible for buyers remorse or lack of planning. We provide estimated deliver times. Items are made to order, (which we state in our Product pages, FAQs, About and Policies pages) When you place a large order with us, we are utilizing our resources - not pulling from stock to fulfill your order. i.e. We are printing, cutting and sewing the garment for your order, and trusting you have done your due diligence regarding size and ship times, and intention to follow through with your order. Below are some common questions about shipping, returns, and exchanges
Shipping, Returns

Our priority is to make sure you are happy with your purchase! Since we work within a lean sustainable business model, we prefer exchanges. Please keep this in mind when ordering and see our returns and exchanges policy page for details
For hygiene reasons, we do not accept returns for some of our swimwear bottoms, (namely our cheeky bikini briefs or tanga styles) that have been opened from its factory sealed hygienic packaging, because we cannot guarantee cleanliness. This particular style is sealed after sewing, rather than arriving with a hygienic liner. All other swimwear items with hygienic liner are acceptable for returns or exchanges.
We are devoted to providing ethically manufactured "slow fashion" apparel to our customers that are as eco-friendly as possible. Our items are not massed produced the way much larger companies are. We don't stock large quantities of products; we make each product to order when a customer places their order. That means when you order 5 garments, we cut and sew those 5 garments for you, specifically. We pay the costs to produce and ship it to you. Garment bracketing has a huge environmental impact. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our manufacturing process, we do not support "bracketing."
This is because the production of these items requires multiple stages in order to create the finished product, which includes fabric printing, cutting, sewing, trimming and shipment operations. When high volume single-ticket returns are requested outside of defect cases, opened packages/tried-on or worn apparel must go through a hygienic reworking process before they can be re-sold as used. This has significant environmental impacts from additional labor, water and energy usage during the refreshing process as well as additional transport costs for both directions.
We understand when it comes to purchasing clothing items online, sizing can be a difficult decision to make. That is why we provide try at home samples, as well as detailed descriptions, size recommenders and measurements for each of our products so that you can buy the item best suited for your body type. When in doubt, please email us for clarification - we're always happy to help! We also recommend using a tape measure and measuring yourself using the handy charts on our Size Guide page.
We prefer exchanges over returns for items that don't fit. As a conscious fashion business striving towards sustainability goals, we strive to limit sizing returns by providing accurate information about sizing and fit on our website prior to purchase so that customers know what they’re buying before they commit to their purchase. By avoiding the amount of overproduction and waste caused by incorrect sizing, this will help us ensure that we are creating better products with less environmental impact while keeping prices competitive at the same time.
We offer free exchanges but do require a restocking fee for canceled order returns. As a sustainable manufacturing business, we take pride in creating products that are quality but also environmentally conscious. We carefully consider every aspect of our product's lifecycle, from the sourcing of raw materials to the final packaging. We're proud that our products are quality, made to order and have a minimal environmental impact.
Regarding the restocking, this fee helps us offset the costs associated with cutting, sewing, shipping, processing the incoming returns, and labor. As a small business, we try to keep our prices as low as possible to make our products accessible to everyone. In sustainable fashion, one of the key goals is to minimize waste and reduce the carbon footprint associated with production and distribution. When an order is placed and later canceled or returned, there can be several resource-intensive steps that have already been set in motion, such as fabric sourcing, cutting, sewing, and preparation for shipping. The restocking fee helps offset some of the costs associated with reversing these steps, allowing us to make more efficient use of resources and reduce unnecessary waste.
By incorporating a restocking fee, we aim to promote responsible consumer behavior and align with the ethos of sustainability. This approach contributes to a more balanced and thoughtful approach to fashion, where each purchase is valued, and resources are managed with care. We believe that in the long run, these practices will contribute to a more environmentally conscious and sustainable fashion industry.

Products
Below are some common questions about our products
If you are between sizes, we recommend ordering up for better comfort or down for a tighter fit (in the case of diving, scuba, snorkel or surfing). If you prefer a tighter fit on rash guards or leggings, size down. Our fabrics for these two garments can be forgiving and stretchy! Please refer to our detailed Size Guide, or reference the Size Recommender or Size Chart on each product listing page. Have your detailed measurements handy or measure yourself with a measuring tape to get the best fit.
Some of our rashguard swimsuit styles do indeed feature built-in (removable) padding for added support. However, it's important to note that most customers opt to wear their own swimsuit tops underneath our rash guards.
The reason for this preference is that every body is unique, and we understand that individuals have different sizing and support needs. By allowing customers to wear their own swimsuit tops underneath our rash guards, we provide the flexibility for you to customize your fit and support level according to your personal preferences.
We recommend going with a darker color legging of medium weight (7 oz +) and a tighter fit if possible. On our product pages for rash guards and leggings, we have a Size Recommender guide. You can input your measurements there and select a Fit Preference from the drop-down menu to see what size is best. Our rash guards and leggings are quite forgiving and stretchy, so going down in size should be OK. Make sure to measure yourself with a measuring tape if in doubt about your size.
Our apparel can be machine-washed cold, inside-out on a gentle cycle with a *mild detergent and like colors. Use non-chlorine bleach only when necessary. You shouldn't use any fabric softeners or dry-clean the items. Line or hang dry is recommended but you can tumble-dry on a low cycle. Use a cool iron inside-out. Follow these instructions carefully to avoid fading, damaging or shrinking the garment.
*mild laundry detergent examples: Tide Free and Gentle, Woolite Gentles Liquid Laundry Detergent, All Ultra Free Clear, Dreft, Gain Botanicals Plant Based.
90% of our garments are proudly made in South America and USA. Our cut and sewn apparel is made in Charlotte, NC, Long Beach CA, Miami and Tijuana, MX, while our fashion swimwear is made in small quantities in Latvia and HK China.
We are a small-scale business that takes pride in producing our items on a per-order basis. Approximately 90% of the garments we offer are cut and sewn according to the specific orders we receive. Unlike companies with extensive inventories, our approach emphasizes sustainability, and therefore we do not maintain large stockpiles of inventory.
It's important to note that your order has been meticulously created by our dedicated team, with each step of the process, from printing to cutting and sewing, tailored to your order.
Our garments are made to order or in limited qty. to minimize environmental impact and reduce waste. The fabric used for our clothing is sourced from local suppliers, who use eco-friendly fabric inks, materials and practices that minimize waste and pollution. To ensure sustainability and ethical production, we only work with certified factories who are committed to fair wages and safe working conditions for the people who make our clothes. Additionally, the packaging we use for transportation and shipping is made from recyclable polybags. Fulfillment for Australia, UK and European countries are handled locally to reduce our carbon footprint in shipping.
Whenever possible, we use recycled polyester fabrics, organic and eco-friendly fabrics.
Whenever possible, we use packaging made of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics. PCR plastics are made from items people recycle every day, like plastic bags and bottles.
Recycled polyester (rPET for short) is a fabric that’s produced from synthetic fibers. Recycled polyester is produced by recycling existing materials (like plastic bottles and packaging) but still has all the characteristics and performance as a regular polyester, making it a more sustainable fabric alternative.
Yes! We use Kornit water-based and NeoPigment inks that are Oeko-Tex™ certified, which means they are safe to print on children’s clothing (and reduce environmental waste!) These inks provide a high washing colorfast AATCC rating of 4.
The test used to measure colorfastness to light is AATCC 16 option 1 or 3. “The AATCC 16 Option 1 and 3 are test methods of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC). After the exposure the difference in color between the exposed and protected parts of the fabric are compared to the AATCC gray scale and the degree of fading is rated.”
Grade 5 = no fading
Grade 4 = slight fading
Grade 1 = high degree of fading
For our sublimation products, we use Mimaki Dye Sublimation Ink Sb411 and Sawgrass SubliJet HD ink for sublimation products. Both of these inks are Oeko-Tex™ certified.
Our rash guards, swimsuits and swim leggings provide UPF 30-50 protection. Dark color styles keep UV rays from reaching your skin by absorbing them rather than allowing them to penetrate. We recommend the best UPF protection in our pocket leggings or darker colored styles. For more info on UPF clothing, we recommend reading this blog post.
For the best protection, please also wear 30+ SPF sunscreen.
When worn according to best practices and with sunscreen our products are effective. However, due to the numerous factors involved with varying UV sun exposure, beach, water conditions or outdoor activities, Berry Jane cannot liable for sun damage or sunburn.
Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much UV radiation (both UVB and UVA) a fabric allows to reach your skin. For example, a UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the sun’s rays and allows two percent (1/50th) to penetrate, thus reducing your exposure risk significantly.
UPF measures the amount of UV radiation that can penetrate fabric and reach your skin. Sun Protection Factor, or SPF, is based on the time it takes for UV-exposed skin to redden; if you burn after 20 minutes, if used correctly, an SPF 15 sunscreen may protect your skin 15 times longer. UPF measures both UVB and UVA rays, while SPF measures only UVB. For the best protection, we recommend SPF 30+
Yes, our leggings, sports bras, and swimsuits are salt water and chlorine-resistant.
If washed per our care instructions, the print should not fade. But with all dyes, nothing is 100% fade-free. Take care to not leave in the sun or use chlorine bleach when washing.
